Steps you can take
Lets talk about the steps you can take yourslef to be part of violence prevention at your school
Be the change you want to see
Using your voice safely
If you feel it is safe to do so, speak up before a conflict escalates into violence. Using your voice to de-escalate a situation can be powerful but it’s important to remember never to physically place yourself in the middle of a confrontation. Prioritize your safety while encouraging others to make respectful, non-violent choices.
Alert an adult
If an altercation occurs, do not put yourself in harm’s way. Instead, find the nearest trusted adult or authority figure and notify them immediately. Your safety is just as important, and reporting the situation ensures it can be handled appropriately.
Spread recources
If you believe someone may be in a situation where they cannot speak out, one of the most impactful ways to support them is by providing access to helpful resources. Often, individuals in difficult circumstances may not know where to turn or how to find the support they need. If you have access to these resources, sharing them can make a significant difference and may even be a crucial first step in helping someone find safety and support.
